What Would You Achieve If Fear Wasn’t in the Way?
Hey there, welcome back to Money First, CEO. I’m Hammond Johnston, your guide in creating a business that serves you, not the other way around. Today, let’s start with a question: What would you achieve if fear wasn’t in the way? Imagine a life without self-doubt, second-guessing, or overwhelm. Just clarity, confidence, and decisive action.
Consider one quarter, 90 days, where you let go of excuses, and overthinking no longer controls you. You lead from a place of strategy and courage, not survival. This is what we’re exploring today, and it’s my goal for the next quarter.
The Power of Starting with Clarity
It’s important to note that this episode isn’t about having everything figured out. Instead, it’s about starting with clarity, especially when it comes to understanding your numbers. When you know where you stand financially, everything becomes simpler.
Close your eyes and imagine heading into a new quarter with energy instead of dread. In one fearless quarter, you could confidently raise your prices, not just for the sake of earning more but because you understand your margins and realise you’ve been undercharging for too long. You might decide to cut ties with an offer that’s draining your time and isn’t aligned with your business direction. Perhaps you could hire help, removing pressure as you make a strategic decision grounded in real data.
Transform Fear into Bold Action
Why aren’t more business owners embracing bold actions? The common barrier isn’t laziness or lack of ambition; it’s uncertainty. You might be thinking, “I don’t know if I can afford this,” or “What if it doesn’t work?” Here’s the truth: A business owner who shies away from the numbers remains trapped in fear. But knowing your numbers offers clarity and dissolves fear, because you transition from guessing to leading.
To create a fearless quarter, you don’t need to revamp your entire business. Start with one clear move informed by your actual data. Here’s a straightforward step to take this week: Open your bank account, review the past 30 days, not what you invoiced, but your actual cash flow. Determine your owner’s pay. Is it consistent? Is it adequate? Identify what’s draining your energy, whether it’s an expense or task, and make a decision: raise a price, cut an unnecessary tool, block time for planning, or outsource what you detest doing.
Confidence Through Action
Remember, confidence doesn’t precede clarity; it follows action. When you take control, open the spreadsheet, send the invoice, increase the price, you transition from being reactive to proactive. You move from overwhelmed to focused, and fear loses its grip.
Ask yourself: What have I been putting off that one bold quarter could change? Perhaps building a buffer, altering your business model, or learning to say no to unsuitable clients. You might have been contemplating these changes for months, but your numbers give you the courage to act on them.
Challenge: Visualise a Fearless Quarter
This week’s challenge is to imagine one fearless quarter. Write down the bold move you’ve been delaying. Then question: What do I need to know about my numbers to act confidently? If you’re unsure, that’s perfectly okay. It’s the first step. You don’t need to do it alone, but you do need to start because in business, perfection doesn’t pay. Progress rewards action, not excuses.
